Kauai

It’s hard to imagine a more beautiful setting for a wedding. Heidi & Rod’s big day was truly picture perfect. Set on the gorgeous island of Kauai, on a private residence, the bride and groom to-be feted a small group of their closest friends and family. Soft puffy clouds floated overhead and the smell of tropical blooms filled the air. The day unfolded dreamily and lazily. Even though there was the usual hustle and bustle involved in orchestrating a wedding – things never felt rushed and as daylight gave into nightfall, the island kept giving us one spectacular moment after another. Such a good feeling…

I love seeing our little proof boxes head out to their new homes. It’s such a good feeling knowing they are about to make their recipients very very happy!

Hurray, it’s summer!

Today is the first day of summer and I hope you will spend at least part of it, laying in the grass, looking at the clouds. Enjoy your day everyone!

A day just for Dads…

Because you never stop holding us up and making us believe we can accomplish the impossible. Happy Father’s Day!

Marisa & Tyler

It’s always so nice when a couple chooses a personal theme for their engagement session. Marisa and Tyler suggested we begin our shoot at their charming cottage in Venice Beach. Marisa had picked flowers from her garden and set a sweet little table in the courtyard. She and Tyler typically have a cocktail there after work. I was really impressed with her flower and still life arranging skills! Everything from the picture-perfect bottle of liquor to an adorable potted centerpiece from a recent friend’s wedding with their names on it, was arranged perfectly. At our feet, begging for attention, was Annie the Schitzou. Admittedly, she didn’t have to beg very hard…it’s hard to ignore that fluffy darling. It became very clear that she is a Daddy’s girl. At one point, I asked Tyler to lean in and give his sweetheart a kiss (meaning Marisa) and he plants a kiss on Annie’s little head! Marisa was not put off by this at all and in fact, she thought it was pretty hysterical. Annie then lead the charge and we followed her through wonderful, secret alleys in the neighborhood. Along the way, there was lots of snuggling and cuddling between Marisa and Tyler and the greeting of friends between Annie and her doggy neighbors. I thought it so sweet that the path this little family walks every day was the setting for their engagement shoot. Larry and I hope this experience was as lovely for them as it was for us and that from now on, whenever they take this walk, they will stop along the way for lots of kisses.

Isn’t she cute?

This Annie. Isn’t she just too cute? Annie played a major role in her mom and dad’s engagement session recently. In fact, she did everything in her power to steal the show! Check back tomorrow to see more of this adorable girl and her equally adorable parents as she leads us on a tour of her favorite neighborhood spots.

Family fun in San Diego

Every couple of years or so, Larry and I travel down to San Diego to photograph three generations of the Thornborrow Cohen family. For the first five minutes, the children are shy and quiet around us but that quickly gives way to lots of mischievous fun. Ainsley is a natural born actress. She is so expressive and will do just about anything to get a laugh. Her brother Willem is as sweet and charming as can be and those teeth are beyond adorable! As usual, it was such fun catching up and documenting the changes in the kids. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone in 2014!
