Emma’s Bat Mitzvah

The Farber family knows how to celebrate. I’m not just referring to the lovely, elegant parties they throw – this family knows the importance of infusing ritual and history into their special occasions. Throughout the three day celebration that comprised Emma’s bat mitzvah, family and friends were invited to participate in readings, and song. Emma was regaled with toasts from her guests; some sweet and touching, some so funny, they had everyone doubled over from laughter. Each element, like the kiddush cup or whimple had an interesting story and history.

The bat mitzvah reached it’s peak with the most chic kid’s party I’ve ever seen. It was dubbed the Snow Ball and it was a wonderland of icy hues.

Emma’s love of horses was evident everywhere, from the table settings, to one of the most adorable cakes I’ve ever seen. A lucite horse and carriage awaited guests at the entrance of the party with a photographer snapping photos. A gentle “snow” fall rained on guests as they left the party with cups of hot white chocolate in hand.

The Snow Ball took place at El Caballero Country Club. The adorable cakes were made at Hansen’s Cakes. The cake pops came via Vanilla Bake Shop and Anne Barnett of Hold the Date made sure every detail was picture perfect.

Join us in Palm Springs!

Join us this Friday, April 8th, at the utterly gorgeous Korakia Pensione in Palm Springs for an opening reception of our fine art photographs. Larry and I will be autographing our new book, A Journey Together, a collection of our favorite photographs and stories from our travels, from 6-8pm.

If you can’t make it to the reception, pop into the Korakia on your next visit to the desert. The folks there have graciously invited us to display our photographs for the next few months.

Sometimes it’s good to look at the world through rose colored glasses.

Spring Wedding Inspiration

Since this is such a lovely spring day, I thought you might like to see a home wedding that epitomizes the beauty of the season.

This intimate affair was the picture of simple elegance. The flowers appeared to have been plucked from the garden minutes before the guests arrived. Vows were exchanged under the backyard oak tree and lunch was served family style with platter after platter emerging from the kitchen.

A glorious spring day unfolded with laughter and the tinkling of champagne glasses gently ringing in the Ojai canyon.

Four Lighthouses

These photographs were made on Anacapa Island with a pinhole camera and Polaroid type 55 film. What made this particular brand of Polaroid so special, is that in addition to a positive image, it also yielded a negative.

The four images in this collage show the effects of when I would deliberately expose the negatives to heat or pressure before peeling them away from the Polaroid casing.

Find the beautiful…
