It’s not often we have such a handsome little guy in our studio. From the moment he walked in, Kasrah had Larry and me wrapped around his little finger! He is so bright and charming and clearly deeply loved by his parents. He is also a great photo subject – giving us one adorable smile after another.

Since he and his family came to see us all the way from Canada, we thought it might be fun to take them to one of our favorite parks once we had made a few images in our studio. It’s always so interesting to see what will captivate our subjects. In this case, Kasrah was enthralled by all the little pink rocks littering the ground. We spent quite a bit of time exploring. Of course lots of sweet photo-ops presented themselves to us as we meandered around.

This engagement session was particularly fun for us to photograph. Not only was it great getting to know Amanda and Max better, it was also wonderful to visit the spot where Max popped the question.

After a scenic drive through Topanga Canyon (one of my favorite roads in all of L.A by the way) we met our gorgeous couple at the Tuna Canyon trail head. As we hiked, we stopped at various picturesque locations where cuddling and kissing was the general directive. Luckily our subjects had no problem complying.

While we could have spent the entire afternoon photographing in a lovely little copse of trees that we found, Max reminded us it was time to head down to the proposal site.

After a bit of a hike, we were rewarded with a landing that overlooked not only Pacific Palisades but Catalina as well. It was simply stunning and utterly romantic. Truly the perfect place for Amanda to say, “Yes”!

Amanda and Max, thanks so much for taking us to your special spot. Larry and I are so looking forward to your big day at the Ojai Valley Inn!

Three + One on the Way…

This is Scarlet. We first met her Mom and Dad when we photographed their wedding several years ago. Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of documenting the birth of Scarlet’s older sister and baby brother. On this occasion, the whole family came to our studio for a photo session.

Big sister Ava shows the baby of the family, Duran some love.

003_IsabelLawrence-165
A new addition to the family was on the way. In fact, I was there for the birth of this beautiful little boy who arrived a couple of weeks after this session.

Something tells me Duran is often the recipient of lots of love from his sisters.

Ava is such a lovely little girl. She is as sweet as she is pretty.

The two sisters take a little breather between shots.

Once we had our fill of the studio, we moved to one of our favorite parks.

009_IsabelLawrence-196
Of course romping and posing in the leaves was highly encouraged.

010_IsabelLawrence-264
Can you see where Duran gets his good looks?

011_IsabelLawrence-251
Kissing and cuddling was also encouraged for Mom and Dad.

It was so nice spending the day with one of our favorite families. We can’t wait for the next session!

Emily & Nate at the Malibu Jewish Center, Part 2

Welcome back to part 2 of Emily and Nate’s beautiful wedding at the Malibu Jewish Center.

002_IsabelLawrence-175
I’m not sure which is stealing the show here, The Vintage Vase’s gorgeous bouquet, or these killer purple shoes worn by Emily’s brothers.

003_IsabelLawrence-268
The thing I love so much about photography is how it perfectly captures the love between people.

004_IsabelLawrence-342
Speaking of love, it was so nice to see how close Nate is with his brother and sisters.

005_IsabelLawrence-222
Nate and his siblings all share a love of music. They have been playing in bands since they were children. Along the way, they have made many friends who are also talented musicians. The wonderful thing about having friends in the music biz, besides awesome jam sessions, is that they are sometimes willing to play at your wedding.

The band suits up for one of the best processionals ever!

I’m a sucker for succulents. I especially love them when they are used in unusual ways like they are here, spilling out of a vintage cabinet’s drawer that served as the bar.

Nate’s brother Sammy leads the merry band of musicians into the ceremony site. They played one of the most charming renditions of “You are My Sunshine.”

I love this photo of Emily. She looks so joyful as she goes off to meet her groom!

011_IsabelLawrence-686
The Malibu Jewish Center is such a wonderful place to be married. The architecture is simply stunning.

012_IsabelLawrence-680
Emily and Nate’s ceremony was so warm. Besides wonderful music, there were lots of laughs.

013_IsabelLawrence-730
After the ceremony, guests chatted and mingled.

014_IsabelLawrence-620
They also dipped into scrumptious food stations created by Tarte Catering.

015_IsabelLawrence-629
This was one of my favorite elements. The generous couple donated lots of good food to a local food bank.

I went bonkers for these amazing centerpieces!

017_IsabelLawrence-802
Michael Habicht of iii designs has such incredible taste. He transformed the ceremony site into a luxe lounge with French accents. He also surprised the bride and groom with these really cool centerpieces featuring photos we took of them at their engagement session.

The first dance…

followed by a rocking’ set played by the groom and his siblings.

019_IsabelLawrence-1162
As you can see, they were a huge hit!

As guests left, they were invited to take these sweet favors.

Emily and Nate, Larry and I wish you all the best in your new life together!

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…the key to successful wedding photography is great chemistry between the bride and groom. If that is present, everything else is just icing on the cake. As you can see from these photos, Emily and Nate’s chemistry is not in short supply! Their lovely wedding took place at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue. Michael Habicht of iii designs brought his usual style and panache to the event. I was so impressed by his transformation of this space. You must check back in tomorrow to see more of his fabulous decor and The Vintage Vase’s gorgeous florals. Equally gorgeous, was Emily’s makeup, applied by Rachel Pagan of The Heart of Makeup.

Emily and Nate also had one of the most charming ceremonies we’ve ever witnessed. I don’t want to give too much away, but it involved a merry band of friends and lots of musical instruments.

If you’d like to see more of this radiant couple, here is a link to their engagement session we photographed in the Venice Canals.

One of my favorites from Emily & Nate’s wedding

IsabelLawrence-197
If any of you reading this are photographers, you might be familiar with that special feeling that occurs in your gut when you know you’ve just made a lovely image. For me that feeling is usually accompanied by an involuntary little operatic ditty. Well, Emily and Nate’s beautiful wedding had me singing non-stop! Please check back tomorrow for part 1 of these very pretty nuptials.
